Future of casinos

If you’re looking for the ultimate gambling experience, a brick-and-mortar casino is the ideal destination. Whether you’re based in Europe, North America, or Asia, there are plenty of choices when it comes to casinos.
Every society in the history of civilisation is believed to have had gambling in it, in one form or another. In the past they have proven popular regardless of the laws and morality and this has continued into the modern era of casinos
Today, if you’d like to play casino games, you no longer need to visit a brick-and-mortar casino, as you are now able to play online at places like Paddy Power games.
Gaming clubs
In the United Kingdom, prior to the modern day term “casino”, the establishments in which people would gamble were known as gaming clubs.
These gaming clubs were reserved for members only and Crockfords is the first recorded gaming club in the UK, having been opened in 1828. Located on Curzon Street, it received the support of the Duke of Wellington.
Although many more gaming clubs sprung up in the 19th and 20th centuries, they needed the support of influential people as they were technically not legal. It wasn’t until 1960 that casinos became a legal entity, thanks to The Gaming Act of 1960.
Progression into casinos
It was George Alfred James, the “Father of British Casinos”, who opened the first official UK casino – the Casino Club Port Talbot in Wales. Although now legal, this first gambling establishment was much like the gaming clubs in that it was for members only.
This was only the first step in establishing an empire, as he later went on to build the Prince of Wales Club in Cardiff, The Kingsway Casino in Southport and for working men in London, he built The Golden Horseshoe.
While his Port Talbot establishment was his first, the lavishness of The Kingsway Casino soon saw it become the jewel in the crown, the flagship establishment of his empire. His death in 1976 saw his empire struggle to expand, and with the Genting Group and Grosvenor increasing their portfolio of casinos, competition became tough.
Into the modern era
After being founded in 1970, Grosvenor Casinos has grown to become one of the largest UK-based chains of casinos, operating 55 casinos across the UK. While they may dominate the brick-and-mortar casino industry, there is a lot more competition online.
Thanks to the invention of the internet, even traditional bookies could get in on the casino action. Sportsbook betting companies were now able to introduce casino games online in a bid to attract more customers, something that was hard to do previously as the start-up costs of a brick-and-mortar casino were too high.
What does the future hold?
The rate of technological advancements suggests that not only will brick-and-mortar casinos need to adapt and change, but so too will online ones. The invention of virtual and augmented reality means that players are seeking out a more unique experience, where they can customise their surroundings while maintaining the feel of a traditional casino.
Online casinos will need to make sure this technology is perfect if they are to race ahead of the competition, as any issues could see their customer numbers fall. They’ve managed to keep up with the technological changes since the turn of the millennium, so there is no reason to doubt that they can’t continue to keep up.
